BLP successfully helps clients every day to meet their legal needs. Examples of our work are included throughout this site. Some further examples include...

National Grid

We advised National Grid in a landmark case that came before the Chancellor of the High Court, regarding a private ‘follow on’ claim for £250m damages against 22 defendants across six countries. The judgment, described by the Financial Times as “the biggest cartel damages action to surface in the English courts”, was a great success for National Grid and BLP, in the face of united opposition from law firms and leading silks.

Tesco

In June 2009 we acted for Tesco on the sale of £430m of commercial mortgage-backed securities, supported by rental income from 12 UK stores and two distribution centres.  We understand the single tranche, fixed-rate deal was the first European CMBS deal for almost two years, and was a landmark transaction in the current economic climate.

Bank of New York Mellon

When The Bank of New York Mellon set out to complete the complex web of legal formalities associated with their acquisition of the corporate trust and administration business of JP Morgan, we supported them. Our role included the co-ordination and review of more than 750 transactions and the novation of more than 400 contracts across 25 jurisdictions including Mozambique, Dubai, and Texas. The project involved working with our panel of preferred firms, and was delivered to the client using a document management product that we designed specifically for them.

Diligenta

In 2007/08 we represented Diligenta, the UK subsidiary of India’s Tata Consultancy Services, in its £100m contract with the Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada (UK) Limited for outsourced life and pensions operations in the UK, including advising on all legal aspects of the transfer of 200 employees.
Diligenta’s appointment was a strategically important step to expand its business in the UK. The BLP team involved in the transaction was able to call on our seamless approach to outsourcing work, drawing on a range of outsourcing experience and specialisms from around the firm.

Saraya Aqaba

The largest construction contract in the real estate sector in Jordan is now under way. It will create a world-class destination for Saraya Aqaba, the renowned flagship development by Saraya, a real estate development and asset management company that invests in the travel and tourism industry. We advised Saraya on its high-profile procurement of a US$1bn mixed-use destination. It comprises approximately 634,000 m2, including five luxury hotels and two boutique hotels, residential units, business facilities, retail, shopping, dining, entertainment, a water park and many other facilities, all within the context of an authentically styled ancient city on the Gulf of Aqaba in Jordan.

Ascent

Our work with the winning consortium, Ascent, on one of the UK’s largest PFI contracts is an example of the BLP general approach of gaining client loyalty through strong relationships.Following our success advising on the Strategic Sealift Project, we quickly identified the £6bn project to provide flight training to all three of the UK’s military services as a contract we were ideally suited to advise on. To take this forward, we formed a close relationship with Ascent, a joint venture between Lockheed Martin and VT plc, during the tendering process, including providing office space for the consortium’s staff and secondees to work on the bid.
