BLP was asked by Orange to support them in the launch of their IPTV project. As a result of other projects and staff departures, Orange did not have an in-house lawyer which it was able to assign to the project and wanted to minimise the cost of outsourced legal services. BLP offered Darren Heath from its LoD pool to work in-house in the Orange team at its offices. As well as nine years as a commercial and TMT lawyer, Darren has previously worked as a writer and presenter for Legal Network Television and a professional support lawyer. LoD offered Darren the opportunity to combine his legal career with a passion for film making and running his own production company.
Throughout the assignment, Darren was, like all Lawyers on Demand, supported by BLP’s knowledge management, training and technology. This assignment was extended for a period of 18 months.
What the client said...
"Our LoD has been a great asset and has been highly rated by his internal clients. I'd like to thank you."
Colin Caldwell, Director of Corporate Legal Services, Orange UKWhat the Lawyer on Demand said...
"I thoroughly enjoy being part of the LoD programme. I was immediately offered an assignment ideally suited to my experience and interests, and which fitted in with my other commitments, and this has provided the opportunity to be involved in innovative and exciting projects, working directly day-to-day with the client. LoD offers a unique opportunity to practise law in-house with the back up of a City firm, and on terms that allow pursuit of other projects."

Lawyers on Demand was used by Misys to provide interim legal support as part of their in-house team. BLP offered the services of Sarah Monk, who had pursued an acting career after three years' PQE in Intellectual Property. Although she continued to carry out some legal consulting work during that period, it was not until Sarah found LoD that she was able to find a balance between her legal career and her acting work. We believe the assignment was successful in the eyes of the client, continuing for a period of more than 18 months.
What the client said...
“The lawyer we received through the service has been great. There was a quick learning curve about our business and she was soon fully integrated into the in-house legal department. The pricing was competitive and you can take it as a ringing endorsement of the scheme that Sarah was with us for over 18 months!”
Kevin Wilson, VP & General Counsel for Banking, MisysWhat the Lawyer on Demand said...
"I enjoy my legal career so much more now that I have the flexibility to also pursue my passion for acting. The support offered by BLP has allowed me to further develop my own legal skills in a comfortable and dynamic environment. It has also provided the client with access through me to an online knowledge management resource which is used across the in-house team."
